The chair is sat on the front of the stage. As part of the redevelopment works the seats, floor and control rooms have been removed in the auditorium. We’ve got a challenging job putting in a big air plenum underneath the seating, which has become all the more important for reopening in a post-Covid world. The ventilation will be vastly improved and use 100% fresh air.
We thought Scrooge’s chair captured lots of thoughts around theatre and our current situation. It harks back to one of the most successful and loved shows we’ve ever had on the Citizens Theatre stage, and also one we remounted at couple of years ago at Tramway. And who knows, if we can jump through all of the Covid related hoops to get a live performance back on, we might see it again. Sort of a vision of theatre past, present and future.
We really miss our old building, and now with the inevitable Covid related cost increases and delays it will be even longer before we are able to get back into our home. Despite the circumstances, work on site is still ploughing on and we’re making plans for future work, so hopefully it won’t be too long before we’re inviting audiences back through the doors to take a seat!
